My mom always told me to kill them with kindness. When I was younger, I so wanted to get mad at people, to get even. It seemed the best thing to do. Now that I’m older, I see she was right. I can’t say that I’m any wiser than I was when I was younger, but I am a lot calmer.

In Tom Clancy’s novel The Sum of All Fears, Palestinians use non-violent protests to achieve their goal. After an Israeli Police officer kills one of the protesters, this creates stability in the region. The demonstrators used a method that was new to them, and that worked. Even though it resulted in an unfortunate death, it does bring about the eventual peace process that everyone in the region so desires. It also shows that it is more important that the people on the streets bring it about than the politicians.

I’m not saying this idea would work now nor anytime in the near future, but we must, Jews and Muslims, come together as one people. We can no longer let the past rule us. We must put aside out petty squabbles for the future of our children.
