Nobody wants to grow up. We all want to be stay young, naïve, and let other people take care of us. Sadly, this isn’t something we can just do.
Recently, I have heard many people grumbling about how Republicans wouldn’t pass the Unemployment Extension. President Obama even derided the GOP for this. Why? During the time that the Extension wasn’t being passed, Unemployment numbers fell.
With Unemployment Benefits now at nearly two and a half years, people are less likely to take the first job that they are offered, hoping for something better. When it was just 26 weeks, people could not afford that luxury. Now, though, they can. Especially since their health care will be subsidized if they can’t afford it.
A fact of life is: if McDonald’s is the first job that offers you a position: take the damned thing! I can guarantee any future employer will look at you more than a quick glance if they see you didn’t have a two year gap, and the excuse, “It was the recession, I couldn’t find a job.” A job, any job, is better than no job.
A fact of life is: if you rely soley upon others, you are only failing yourself. During the Great Depression, people often helped each other, but it was their own hard work that paid off in the end.
A fact of life is: no matter how bad your life is, it can always get worse.
A fact of life is: if you blame someone else for your problems, then you cannot accept credit for your accomplishments.
A fact of life is: people are idiots. So are you. Get used to the idea.
And finally, a fact of life is: People who jump on a band wagon a lemmings. They will usually be disappointed with the crowd, though probably not want to admit it.
